Callaway (aka Tiger Woods)

Dear RAPS

Our first night together and we hit it off. He got a lot of sleep, but I sure didn't. Laying on top of me with his head in the crux of my neck, I didn't have the heart to push him off. Callaway is sooooo cuddly and always purrrring. When he greets me he loves to nuzzle his nose in my face. Loves to play and full of energy...I think he loves his new home. Thank you RAPS (Richmond Animal Protection Society) I think we'll make great companions.

Letter from a Concerned RAPS Volunteer

I have very recently read an article about the RAPS animal shelter losing its contract. This is something that I can never see happening. I am 10 years old and I have been volunteering at RAPS with my mom for the past 3 years. I have grown to love the animals and workers there. They are like family! I have feline friends who, if RAPS was a Kill shelter, wouldn't survive for very long! They may be sick, scared, unfriendly, or any other situation, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a second chance at a better life, with a family that loves them.

The question might be "Should they keep their contract?" But I have the answer, and the answer is "Definitely!!" How can there be love in a shelter that kills.
Have you ever had a family pet? One that you loved dearly. One that you could not imagine dying. Think about that. Don't forget about the animals who love so unconditionally.

RAPS has had their share of disappointments, don't give them another. I think that everyone should get to find out that RAPS isn't just a program that just cares for animals and educates the public. They are a group of people who love the animals they care for. They have proven that they love every animal that comes in and they work hard to ensure all animals go to their perfect home. The dedicated staff and volunteers put in the time and effort to care for and love the animals, now it's our turn to care for the shelter and all the hard work they do to keep Richmond stray-free!!

Hopeful Volunteer of Raps,
Claire Hull

Milo starts his rehabilitation at Canada West Animal Hospital

Thank you to everyone that donated towards Milo's recovery! His first session went very well! Milo was a star and he took the stretching, exercises and hydrotherapy in stride! He is a brave boy that licked and flirted with his therapists...what a rascal!

Herald, one of Rosie's 9 puppies, is loving his life on a farm in Langley!

Here are a couple of pictures of the dog we got from you last year. His name was Herald but now it is Leo. He is very energetic but seems to be enjoying life on the farm. Right now he spends most of his time in the house and only comes out with us. He is getting better with the cats but still thinks they are playtoys.
All in all he has worked out well just need to get my butt in gear and do some more training.

RAPS Toy and Food Drive

Thank you for all the generous donations at the RAPS City Shelter Toy and Food Drive!
Once again the community has generously opened their wallets to help homeless and abandoned animals in Richmond. RAPS would like to thank everyone that has come out during the Christmas season with tons of supplies for our needy animals.
We are all very grateful.

Blondie loves her new home in the country!

Hi RAPS reps

Blondie's trip to her new home was uneventful & she was quite excited about all the smells in the back yard ... lots to explore!

She's in the house now & boldly checking everything out, she's not freaked out or anything, just a bit unsure.

I'm sure she's going to like is around here! She's currently laying on the floor next to me, so I think she'll warm up to us soon too.

Pic attached I just took in her new home :)

Happy New Year!

RAPS Open House Celebrating No-Kill Sheltering

Thank you to all those who came out on Dec 31st to celebrate no-kill animal sheltering at the RAPS City Shelter. We were overwhelmed by and grateful for the support from the community. It was an event that clearly illustrated that the community of Richmond supports the no-kill sheltering philosophy.

Sirrius

Sirrius was his original name and he had a tag on his cage that stated he was "depressed." I visited him a total of 4 times in Richmond and it became obvious that he was an extremely affectionate cat who was timid and wary of anything outside his cage to the extent that he was very withdrawn. He had been a resident at the shelter for 3 months when I first encountered him and it was explained to me that adopters didn't often choose 1 year old black cats. I chose him and gave him a home and he put on weight and adjusted in about 1 month and I now have the sweetest and most affectionate and playful indoor cat imaginable. Thank you Raps for being around and while I still have the cage that was leant to me, I will return it and pay a visit over the next while.

Thank You again and regards from Shorty and I
