Ricki's New Home

Hi, Addison has a new name! She seems to like the name Ricki and her nickname will be Boefje (meaning little rascal). She is having a blast and she knew within an hour what our front door is and no way she will pass that door. She acts like she has always lived here! All our friends are also in love with her!

Happy holidays!

Rory Update

Hi guys!

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on our first night with Rory. He is such an amazing dog, and gets along SO well with my dog and cats. Haven't introduced him to the horses yet, but that will come later today!

He fits in great, and right now, he is curled up on his bed.. hehe. He already got a hang of the ''toy box'' and goes to it often to get a toy to chew or play with..

I've attached a few pictures for you ! Thank you so much for letting us adopt him..

Ps. We have found out that Rory is quite the messy drinker, it's hilarious.. He dives his whole nose in the water, and makes a mess.. hehe. So thats why we've put down the towels by his water.. haha!

Tootsie update

Hello,
My partner and I adopted Tootsie yesterday (the 7 year old cat who had been at the shelter for over 2 months), and as we were leaving you told us to update you on Tootsie's progress so I thought I'd fill you in on how she has been so far.

She is such a doll! She has adjusted to her new surroundings very well! Within the first hour of getting her home she was eating with a great appetite (healthy wet food with no grains) and hopping up on our laps and purring away. She is very well behaved and affectionate. She is using her scratching post happily and following me around like a little shadow, purring and rubbing against us constantly. We absolutely adore her!

We think you are running a very good shelter and really care about the well being of your animals. Thank you for helping us find our new loving companion.

Sincerely,
Megan

Yoshi

Hi everyone...just a quick note to let you know Yoshi's doing well in his new home and our two cats have accepted him quite well. When we first brought Yoshi into the house, we think our female cat thought our former "Tonka" (deceased) cat had come home. The next morning our male cat hissed at him a little (we had Yoshi behind closed utility room door with window), so suddenly the female cat realized she had to hiss, also. All in all, it went better than expected and within five days they were walking through the house together. The two male cats are enjoying each other's company, and as expected, Yoshi's enjoying going into the courtyard.

Thanks for letting us adopt Yoshi...we are so enjoying him...he's really a beautiful boy and well-mannered, as well. We appreciate all you did and it was a pleasure meeting you!

Happy holidays!!!

Update on Pika

Hi,

Here's some pictures from Pika's latest photo shoot. She continues to live in luxury and greets the ARC (Animal Rescue and Care) Club students every morning to get her treat. She sleeps until lunch time, then wakes up again in the hopes of some attention while the ARC Club tends to her cage. Then it's back to sleep so she can party all night, running on her wheel and rearranging her furnishings!

I'm kind of jealous!

Kona the Shar-Pei

Hi,

I know you folks deal with a lot of dogs and I don't know how many you could possibly remember, but I think Kona may have left an impact, anyway. She has started doing something that I have never heard of any other dog doing. While watching TV I sit in my armchair with my right forearm on the armrest and my hand hanging over the side. Kona takes her right paw, lifts my hand and puts it in her mouth and very gently mouths my hand, expressing her love, I find it so touching it almost brings me to tears to tell people about it. I won the lottery with her, thank you, keep up the great work and never forget, there's a special place in Heaven for people like you.

Thank you
Kenn & Kona

Meatball

Hi All!

Simone and I adopted 'Meatball' a few months ago now from your shelter. We gave him a new name "Kermode' ( Kerr-Mode-Eee) as in a Kermode Bear or the White Spirit Bear here in BC. He looks just like those bears which are from my traditional territory on the north coast of BC.

He has been an amazing addition to us. He has gotten quite confident here at his home in Gastown....his Pyrenees traits are sure coming through. A great protector of his flock he is...(barking at birds trying to steal his bones on the deck)...he is VERY gentle with people and other dogs...unless they bite him then he usually puts his pancake move on them to show them how BIG he is then he calmly walks away.

We wanted to send you some pictures of him and his new life here.

I think he might run for Gastown mayor next year... he is extremely popular with the tourists, street people love him, and the residents. He is asked for his picture all the time.

And he loves Canucks games with Dad!

Pika the hamster

Hi,
I just wanted to thank you for letting me adopt Pika outside of regular adoption hours - she is doing great and her new habitat has lots of cool features for her to enjoy. She is very tame and gentle. My ARC (Animal Rescue and Care) club students adore her!

An update on Ricky and Cleo

Just wanted to let everyone know how well Ricky and Cleo are doing. One of the Cat Sanctuary’s favourite “forever pairs” have found their forever home, and they couldn’t be happier. They have been through a lot, (see the Neko Files on Ricky and Cleo: http://neko-raps.blogspot.com/2010/03/ricky-cleo.html.) and spent about two years at the Sanctuary. It took them a while to get totally comfortable with us, but now they can’t get enough attention. Especially Ricky, who is a full-on lap cat. Cleo -on the other hand- is very affectionate and gentle, but definitely does not like to be picked up. She spends her time split between the ‘catio’ on our balcony chirping at birds on the feeder, or sleeping in her cat-condo. Ricky likes to sleep behind the couch or other hidden places where he feels safe. When he is awake, though, he will most likely be right beside one of us. We knew we wanted to adopt as soon as we started volunteering at the Cat Sanctuary, we just didn’t know how lucky we would get.

Thanks RAPS, for all the hard work, and for taking care of our kitties until we found them.

Papaya

I adopted Papaya, AKA Colby, on 1 June. He was a scared and skinny cat. Although he is still easily scared (you can tell from his eyes), he is skinny no more. His head has become so round and he fur shines. It takes me a almost 2 months to clip his nails as he scratches me so often but he is showing significant progress everyday. Papaya is getting along with my other lady cat. I think he still has way to go for his ultimate socialization with human. Believe me, he will get there!

Thanking all RAPS staff who took care and showed concern for my Papaya.

Hello from Bourbon ("Tui")!!

Hello lovely people at RAPS, this is Bourbon writing. Well actually my new owners have re-named me to Tui, which is a beautiful native New Zealand bird which has a lovely song (I bet they'd be fun to chase...).

I wanted to write to you to say that I am really thankful for the time that you all looked after me in the shelter, I won't forget it. My new owners, Colleen and Sam just love me and have been taking me on lots of walks and runs in North Vancouver, and I've been mountain biking a few times which is really fun. I have met lots and lots of other dogs that I am really well behaved with so Sam says (most of the time... hehe). Sam and Colleen have some friends with a one year old labrador called Owen - him and me are best friends now and we often go out for runs and plays together on the trails. We also have peeing competitions - I can pee more than him!

I have attached a few photos of me doing fun things like swimming and biking, I hope you like them. Sam even made a video of me running behind his friend on a mountain bike last weekend:

Lots of love from Tui (Bourbon)!!! Woooooooof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spirit

Hi everyone

I just wanted to send you all a little note to say that Spirit is settling in to her new home beautifully. It took her a few days to actually relax, but she is getting more playful, walking on the leash like an angel and seems a little more happier each day.

We absolutely love her and she is a fantastic fit to our home. She seems really happy, and is even dancing sometimes. Her favourite snack has become the peas from our garden, which she gracefully chews like a lady. And man, can that girl run….i have been roller blading with her and she just loves it!

Thank you again for all your help and homing her with us.

Nico

Hi Everyone,

I am just emailing a quick note to let you know that our ''Nico," previously Heidi, is adjusting well to our home and life in Revelstoke.

This photo is not the most dignified, but she is beautiful. She was at the end of a play time with a few other dogs.

She is getting along well with people and other dogs. She still demonstrates puppy behaviour, but nothing unusual and she is gradually becoming more confident on her own and losing her separation anxiety. She is feeling secure.

Thanks again for adopting her to us in Revelstoke.

All the best,
Becky

Essence (now Bhoda)

Hi RAPS,

I just wanted to send a quick email follow up on Essence (now answering (mostly) to Bhoda), who came home with us last Saturday Aug 13.

Though not terribly thrilled to travel home in the crate, once she got here, she wasn't content to sit still and had completed a self-guided tour of our townhouse within the first few hours. She's settled in, in no time flat: eating well, playing with anything that can be knocked around and sleeping on the bed. She's claimed a favourite spot in one window seat and quickly tested - and grasped - the difference between scratching post and everything else. She's easy going, friendly and gently playful - perfect combination for us.

She had a visit to our vet today (South Burnaby Vet) for an intro and once-over. The vet had nothing but praise for the care she'd received with you that was noted on her history sheet: from the fact that Bhoda had even been tested for FIV, to the choice in de-worming meds, the booster vaccine and her overall health, the vet was, I think, really impressed.

So, thank you for the care and for helping us find her!
