The Life of one of the Beautiful People (er, Cats)

This is Mario. I was lucky to get a photo of him by himself because he usually has at least one or two cats who follow him around RAPS’ cat sanctuary, rubbing against him and twining their tails ecstatically around his. What is the source of his charisma? For starters, he’s white and orange and fluffy. Okay, let’s face it – he’s one gorgeous hunk of a feline! If he were human, he’d be one of the beaufiful people, you know the ones I mean, the ones with flawless complexions who wear dark shades and drive fast, sleek cars. Speaking of speed, Mario has just one – slow and easy. Maybe it’s that laid-back, cool dude attitude that attracts not only the girls but some of the boy cats as well. Maybe it’s just feline pheromones. Whatever it is, Mario never has to worry about looking good – there’s always an admirer willing to groom his beautiful long fur. But there’s a price to pay for those good looks. Poor Mario, plagued by groupies, just can’t find a moment’s peace or a place to sleep alone. Despite squeezing that hunky body into the tiniest basket, some determined fan always tries to snuggle in with him. But, like most great beauties, even Mario has a flaw, although he doesn’t like to talk about it. In fact, he doesn’t like to say much at all because, despite being so macho, Mario possesses only a squeaky little voice. Isn’t it a relief to know that no one is perfect?

Zody

Hi there,

I have run into several people while out walking Zody who remember her from her time at RAPS. It’s always so fun to watch Zody go running up with her little bum wagging when she recognizes people!

Here are a few more recent pics of Zody for you guys. She is quite the little swimmer, we can’t keep her out of the water!

Left for Dead

Milo, a mastiff shepherd was found on Hwy 99 at 5am on Monday July 12th. He was rushed to Vancouver Animal Emergency and then quickly transferred to the RAPS Veterinary Hospital. X rays showed that he had a compound left femoral fracture and that extensive surgery would be required. Knowing that Milo was in extreme pain RAPS opted to have his surgery done as soon as possible. On Tuesday June 13th Milo had his surgery and was then transferred to the RAPS city shelter for his recovery. He is a sweet, loving dog that is so happy to be safe and sound. We will keep everyone posted on his recovery!

Finnegan

Hi RAPS:

Just wanted to send a couple of pics of Finn so you can see that he is settling in well here in Victoria; he has captured our hearts completely, and he seems to like us well enough- almost as much as his ball! We are really happy that he has joined our family!

Thank-you.
Lori

Summer Fun!

No one loves summer better than the dogs at the RAPS City Shelter. In the summer our front yard transforms into a play yard fully equipped with tents, toys and a splash pool!

Boy do these adoptable dogs love to play!

Skunk Baby

Spring is a busy time for the Richmond City Shelter as new lives are always needing rescue. This baby skunk was found orphaned and needed emergency fluids and food. With diligent work from a RAPS employee this baby skunk recovered with leaps and bounds. Once it was stable it was transferred to Critter Care rescue to the final stages of rehabilitation.

RAPS Helps Cats Recover from Animal Cruelty

Hello. Our names are Achilles and Persphone. We are the unfortunate outcomes of breeding cruelty. Our owners never let us out of a cage, never brushed us, never loved us and when we had filled their purpose they put us in a bag and threw us on the side of the road beside the RAPS city shelter.

We are so happy to have found our new home! After hundreds of dollars worth of surgery to clean our teeth and skin we are now on the rapid road to recovery. We love our morning snacks and we love scratching sessions. We can't wait to find our forever home but in the meantime we are thoroughly enjoying this kitty paradise!

Turtles Galore!

You know never what to expect at the RAPS City Shelter. On Tuesday July 6th we had three stray turtles come in from three separate locations! We were in complete shock at the randomness of this event and quickly set to work to build them a habitat. Currently they are all living peacefully in a pool in our courtyard but we are formulating plans to build them a pond or pool. What a day!

Updates of Noah (Cherry) and Maki (Sasha)

Hi Carol, Sonia and everyone at RAPS

I dropped by earlier today to donate some fabric for the shelter. Just want to send some pictures to all of you and give you a brief update of both Noah (Cherry) and Sabamaki (Sasha)

Maki has been doing great! She is my little chunky pillow now. She sleeps by my head every single night. She also likes to stay close to me when I watch TV or when I go onto my computer. She learned to sit before I give her treats too!!

Noah is still a little nervous although she's been home for about 10 months now, but has improved A LOT!! She now follows me into the bathroom every morning and will beg to be picked up and put on my lap while I'm...... well let's not get into that :P For the past couple days she started to like being carried like a baby. She would rest her little paws on my shoulder too.

Here are some pictures of them!!
